South Holston River
The South Holston, located near Bluff City, Tennessee, is one of the premiere fly fishing trout fisheries in the east, and we think in the country. If there is a better river in the southeast we want to fish it! We guide fly fishing trips on this river, wade fishing during low water, and float trips during times of generation. The South Holston River can only be floated during times of generation. If you book a float trip on the South Holston and generation does not occur, you will be given an option of floating the nearby Watauga river or wade fishing the South Holston. Sulphurs, blue winged olives and midge hatches provide some of the best dry fly action anywhere, which makes catching 18 inch plus fish on top not uncommon. Nymph and midge fishing make up the bulk of low water fishing when hatches are not taking place. On fly fishing float trips fishing will consist of dries, nymphs or streamers based on conditions. We don’t recommend this river for beginning fly fishing anglers because of it’s technical nature and sometimes finicky fish, but it’s rewards can be great!
