New River Is Still Crankin’ Them Out!
September 23rd, 2007 - Posted by Jeff
My father-in-law and I have been talking about fishing the New River together for some time now but do to my hectic schedule till yesterday it was just talk. As they say in life some things are worth the wait and this was a case example. We hit the water at about 9:30 and the first two hours were as I had expected in slow fishing with just a few fish brought to hand. At about 12:00 it all changed. We caught over 40 fish in the afternoon with one measuring over 20 inches and one 18 inches plus. The number of 12 to 16 inch fish made up most of the remaining tally. My father-in-law over the years hadn’t been real big on the catch-and-release idea, wondering why I would enjoy it so much. After one of his 15 inchers he caught had hooked himself deep I decided quickly it was best to clip the hook off to give the fish his best chance. As I made sure the fish swam away my father-in-law asked if I thought the fish would be ok. He said it was the best day he had ever had fishing. Thanks Charlie Frank for a great day.
