Watauga tailwater 4/14-15-17-18/08

Fished the watauga tailwater Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday (was suppose to fish today but a last minute cancellation put me at the house). lots of boats every day but fishing was good every day and great some days. hoping for the caddis hatch, got it some days, some days not but nymphing was good when no hatch was happening. Tuesday Eric Briggs caught at least 20 fish (we lost count) on top not counting his dad Rick’s fish and didn’t move the boat. Thursday Skip Whitman and Mack McNeil 16 on top on one anchor spot. Yesterday was the best as far as bigger fish. fished with eric and his buddy john. not alot of topwater action but the nymphing made up for it, although the brown and last bow came on top. also as the old fish story goes we lost the 2 biggest fish. on consecutive casts we lost the 2 biggest fish of the day, one big fat ‘bow and a big brown. when your indicator and fly line are 3 feet under the water and a big bow comes out of the water 50 feet downstream on the other side of a big rock it’s usually not a good sign
